A close look at Poverty in America. This independent film takes a look at the problem of poverty right here at home in the streets of LA. Pras Michel a successful member of The Fuggees hip-hop band, goes undercover to take a closer look at the life of homeless people by living in Skid Row for 9 days. This is haunting film which brings awareness to the problem of poverty that most of us in America would rather not be reminded of, but that is very real and unless we intervene as a society, we cannot ultimately be successful.
Skid Row
2007 | 94 min
“Skid Row” is a 50-square block area in downtown Los Angeles where an average of 90,000 homeless and transient people live on any given night. More than just a place - it’s a way of life, a mind set, the last resort for those who have given up on society and, in many cases, themselves. In the feature documentary SKID ROW, Pras Michel - one third of the successful hip-hop band The Fugees - lives on the streets of Skid Row for nine straight days and nights as a homeless person. The entire time he and his crew are undercover, using surveillance cameras. His journey is a difficult one, riddled with hunger, exposure to the elements, criminals, drugs and danger. It is also life-changing…as Pras learns not only how to fend for himself, but discovers the dark, very human and, at times, humorous underbelly of Los Angeles.
Wondering what you can do? We can all do things to alleviate this problem, it’s a matter of committing to the idea that we all have to do our part.
Go here to find out what you can start doing today…

Nice move, bibi and I’m also one of the volunteer that will join this blogactionday as well!
Its very dangerous living on the streets.
You really have to be careful who you associate your self with.
Lots of preditors out there looking for easy prey.
And homeless people are the easyiest prey, cause no body cares about them.
personnaly I wouldn’t live in a city.
its better to find a safe secluded place to live and sleep at night.
out of the city.
Great piece. It’s great to help the world, but we all need to look in our own back yard first.
